Complimentary Colours 22.05.18

I always mix my own colours to ensure a perfect match. Paint mixing is an art all on its own as it needs to be a specific thickness to go through the airbrush. Mixing cups have volume marked out on them so you can use those to mix up a large batch, I usually do it all by eye! The paint is then passed through a mesh filter before going into the airbrush. The filter removes any little particles that may have fallen in the paint. All my paints are carefully prepared prior to painting. It's a labour of love and so much time goes into this stage before any painting even happens. If something does get stuck in the paint and goes into the airbrush it clogs the needle. I then take the airbrush apart to clean it. That in itself is a lengthy and delicate process as each of my specialist Iwata airbrushes come apart into 14 pieces!

Airbrushing Prep 19.04.18

Airbrushing is 80% prep. The painting is the easy bit! A lot of work goes into each piece, right from the beginning. The metal panels are hand made by Harris Brothers Metal Fabricators, of Maids Moreton. I then clean them ready for paint, and prime the area for paint. When I have finished a section I cover it with masking tape to stop any more paint getting on it. Using an airbrush creates overspray which can get everywhere!
